About Us

The Baker Hotel has graced downtown Cranbrook since 1923, standing as a timeless symbol of elegance, heritage, and refined hospitality.

Throughout its storied past, the hotel has welcomed distinguished guests, including the legendary Bing Crosby, and has long been woven into the cultural fabric of the city. Like all great icons, the Baker has endured periods of quiet decline, adding depth and character to its remarkable legacy.

In 2018, the Baker Hotel was acquired by Greg Eaton and King Briar Developments, who undertook a meticulous restoration & renovation to revive its original grandeur.

With care and respect for its historic architecture, the hotel has been thoughtfully reimagined—seamlessly blending classic charm with contemporary luxury. Today, the Baker Hotel once again reigns as the centerpiece of downtown Cranbrook. We invite you to indulge in an extraordinary stay where over a century of history meets modern amenities, elevated comfort, and impeccable service—an experience as timeless as it is unforgettable

Greg Eaton, Owner

Greg Eaton, owner of Duocorn Properties and King Briar Developments, has established himself as a respected and forward-thinking real estate investor with a passion for revitalizing distinctive properties. Since beginning his investment journey in 2004, Greg has carefully built a diverse and growing portfolio across the Kootenays, guided by a long-term vision rooted in quality, sustainability, and community impact. His work reflects not only a keen understanding of real estate markets, but also a deep appreciation for the stories, craftsmanship, and architectural character that make each property unique.

Drawn to buildings with history and presence, Greg has consistently focused on acquiring properties that offer both intrinsic charm and meaningful redevelopment potential. His approach blends respect for heritage with thoughtful modernization, ensuring that each project enhances its surroundings while preserving the elements that give it identity and cultural value.

Since making Cranbrook his home in 2007, Greg has been an engaged and active member of the community. Together with his wife, Cathy, and their two children, he has built strong local roots and remains committed to contributing to the city’s growth and vibrancy. Outside of his professional work, Greg enjoys staying active and is an avid pickleball player, a pastime that reflects his energetic and community-oriented lifestyle.

One of Greg’s most notable achievements is the transformation of the historic Baker Hotel. Recognizing its untapped potential, he saw beyond its deteriorated condition to envision what it could become—a revitalized landmark that honors its past while serving the needs of a modern community. In 2018, Greg acquired the property and embarked on a comprehensive redevelopment that would ultimately redefine its role in Cranbrook’s downtown core.

Taking a hands-on approach, Greg also served as General Manager of the hotel from 2018 to 2021. During this time, he played a central role in guiding both the strategic direction and daily operations of the property, ensuring that every detail aligned with his vision for quality and guest experience. Under his leadership, the Baker Hotel underwent a remarkable transformation, blending its original Art Deco elegance with contemporary design, comfort, and functionality.

Today, the Baker Hotel stands as a testament to Greg’s commitment to excellence, preservation, and community revitalization. Thoughtfully restored and carefully re-imagined, it offers guests a refined and welcoming experience while celebrating the architectural heritage that makes it truly special. More than just a successful redevelopment, the project reflects Greg’s broader philosophy: that great properties are not simply owned—they are stewarded, enhanced, and shared for generations to come.

Shivam Dwivedi, General Manager

Shivam is a motivated and results-oriented hospitality professional, recognized for his strong leadership, commitment to excellence, and steady growth within the industry. With a Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management from India and a two-year Post-Graduate Diploma in Hospitality Management from Selkirk College, he brings a well-rounded perspective that blends international training with a strong understanding of the Canadian hospitality landscape. Early in his career, he expanded his global outlook through an internship in the Maldives, where he gained firsthand experience in luxury service standards and refined his approach to guest relations.

Since arriving in Canada, Shivam has built his career from the ground up, guided by a hands-on approach and a deep respect for every aspect of hotel operations. Over the course of his career, he has gained experience working with a range of well-known hotel brands and properties, including Marriott Hotels, Best Western Hotels & Resorts, Coast Hotels, and VOI Hotels, each contributing to his well-rounded operational and leadership expertise.

He began as a housekeeper at a small boutique hotel, quickly distinguishing himself through his work ethic, attention to detail, and genuine care for the guest experience. Within eight months, he was promoted to a Night Front Desk Agent role, where he developed a strong operational foundation while managing guest services and overnight functions. He remained in this role until the hotel’s temporary closure during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Upon reopening, Shivam’s dedication and leadership potential were recognized with a promotion to Front Desk Executive. He continued to advance rapidly, stepping into the role of Hotel Supervisor, where he played an integral part in daily operations and team development. His ability to lead with both professionalism and empathy led to his promotion to Hotel Manager, a position he held for nearly a year, overseeing staff, operations, and the overall guest experience with confidence and consistency.
Seeking to broaden his experience, Shivam later joined Coast Hotels as an Operations Manager, gaining exposure to brand standards and multi-department coordination within a larger hospitality framework. However, his strong connection to the Kootenays and appreciation for community-centered hospitality ultimately drew him back to the region. When the opportunity arose, he joined The Baker Hotel as General Manager, where he currently leads with a clear vision and a strong commitment to delivering meaningful guest experiences.

As General Manager of The Baker Hotel, Shivam is responsible for overseeing all aspects of hotel operations, including team leadership, guest satisfaction, financial performance, strategic planning, budgeting, and revenue management. He plays a key role in fostering a positive workplace culture, ensuring high service standards, and maintaining the long-term success and reputation of the property within the community. His leadership style is hands-on, collaborative, and focused on continuous improvement across all departments.

Today, Shivam leads with a thoughtful and people-first approach, combining operational expertise with a genuine commitment to service. His journey reflects not only steady professional growth but also a belief that hospitality is built on dedication, adaptability, and a deep understanding of both people and place.
Throughout his journey, Shivam has been supported by a strong network of peers and guided by the mentorship of the leaders he has worked alongside. Among them, Greg Eaton, previously of Eaton Properties and now owner of King Briar Developments and Duocorn Properties, has played a particularly influential role, helping shape Shivam’s leadership approach and contributing meaningfully to his growth and impact on the hotel’s development.

“Great hospitality is not just about serving guests—it’s about empowering staff, supporting your team, and creating an environment where everyone feels valued, welcomed, and part of something meaningful.”
